Become a House Leader
Become part of the team of live-in mentors who manage the Alpha House. Make a major difference for others during the evening and weekends with the flexibility to go to school or work another job.
Provide Life-Changing Leadership
The House Leader program is the most challenging opportunity for growth at Alpha Academy. There is no cost to the program, and you’ll even receive a scholarship to do it, but it will be a year of enormous personal development as you serve others in real personal, stretching ways. House Leaders are part of our Residential Program and are tasked with providing leadership to the other men who are students in the program. This involves building bonds with the students in the program and creatively finding ways to help them grow. Being a House Leader also means running the logistics of a household. House Leaders are responsible for assigning who will make certain meals, how the house will be kept up, enforcing the rules of the program, and coordinating activities for the house members to go do.
Benefits of Being A Leader
Tasks themselves are not the challenge, it’s the commitment to be involved and serving over a length of time with people who may not be the easiest to live with. However, there are many benefits to this program. House Leaders receive their own mentoring and coaching to help them grow to be great leaders in every area they will pursue. They also live on-site, rent-free, and enjoy free meals provided by Alpha Academy. There is also an $8000 scholarship for House Leaders per year.
The schedule is very accommodating to another job or school. House Leaders are only required to be on the job in the evenings. They will always have from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm open for whatever else they’re committed to. There are two House Leaders at a time, but only one is on duty on a given night. Typically, an individual House Leader will work 2 weeknights and nights every other weekend (Friday-Sunday).
Qualities of a House Leader
House Leaders are natural leaders, interested in investing in others and helping them grow. They must be mature and responsible enough to be effective at their job. They should be invested in their own personal growth, as well as the growth of others.
A House Leader will be responsible for keeping order in the house by making sure that the rest of the Alpha Academy students are keeping up with their responsibilities and staying safe.
Growth comes quickly to House Leaders as they work on supporting others and are intentionally working on their own needs, proving that the best lessons often come from the challenges of leadership.
As a House Leader you will be with the students a lot. The students decide to come to Alpha Academy on their own, but typically struggle to stay motivated and frequently have a bad attitude and can under deliver on their responsibilities. It can sometimes be a challenge to stay in the right mindset as a House Leader, but we’re here to serve others and do hard things. Plus, you will have a team of supporters on staff to help encourage you and lift you up.
